CONGRESSMAN GOHMERT POSTPONES MEETING IN KARNAK
Caddo Lake area residents who disagree with Congressman Louie Gohmert’s intervention in the transfer of land from the LHAAP site to the new Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge were looking forward to discussing the issue with him at a meeting scheduled October 3 at the Karnack Community Center. That date had been proposed and confirmed by Mr. Gohmert’s staff September 20.

Congressman Gohmert called event organizer Judith Johnson Friday evening and told her he would be unable to attend October 3rd because he needed to be in Washington Tuesday morning to deal with national security issues. He told Ms. Johnson that he would reschedule the event as soon as possible.

While all who are interested in meeting with Congressman Gohmert on this issue are disappointed, most take him at his word that his duties preclude his being with us that particular night.

The October 3rd meeting is CANCELLED. As soon as Mr. Gohmert has given Ms. Johnson another date and she lets us know, a notice will be posted on this website.

Ms. Johnson said that she will urge Mr. Gohmert to agree to appear on October 10, 11 or 12 because those are the only dates on which several out-of-town guests she has invited to appear at the meeting are available.

Ms. Johnson has invited a nationally recognized expert on the economic value of wildlife refuges, Mr. Emerson Learn, to make a brief presentation. Mr. Learn is a retired Merrill Lynch executive and Past President of the Friends of the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge near Socorro, New Mexico.

(see www.friendsofthebosque.org" to learn more about the organization Mr. Learn helped found.)

Mrs. Johnson says she will have others who will present factual information regarding the suitability of the land for industrial development purposes.

Surely, the Congressman will want to hear these presentations.
