MECAR USA has snagged its first contract since setting up business last year at the Marshall Business Park, a $1 million agreement to load, assemble and pack 105 mm training ammunition for the U.S. Army.

The training ammunition – designed and built in the company's European division – replicates the "bunker buster," which was developed to penetrate a bunker's double-reinforced concrete walls.

The training weapon differs from the real bunker buster because it does not explode on contact, said MECAR President Steve Dart.

However, Dart said his munitions company will be capable of making real weapons, "live rounds," by next year, and he is hopeful of getting contracts to do so.
