Editorial (from MNM): City should look closely at Texas Comptroller Review
We surely hope the city of Marshall will review a list of suggestions from the Texas Comptroller's Office that could save taxpayer money by either improving efficiency or generating new revenue.

The total amount that could be saved or generated equals $4.2 million and that is enough to pave some streets, maintain some parks or improve other Marshall infrastructure.

We realize, of course, that it cannot be done all at once. This isn't $4.2 million that is going to be coming in within a few months. These are all long-term projects, but long-term money is still money and it should be saved.

One thing of particular concern in the report is that the state is saying the city should improve oversite of the Marshall Economic Development Corporation, including requiring a line-item budget.

We thought this matter was taken care of years ago when it was brought to light that MEDCO was not submitting a timely budget.
