Site proposal draws communication to Sen. Hutchison's office
By JULIA ROBB, Special Projects Editor Marshall News Messenger

Numerous Harrison County residents have contacted Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson's office regarding a proposal to privatize a Karnack site for economic development, a Hutchinson spokesman said Thursday.

That was counter to comments another staffer made Wednesday claiming Hutchison's office had not heard from area residents on the topic.

The site, part of Longhorn Army Ammunition Plant acreage, is scheduled to become part of the Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge.

Spokesman Jamie Loftus said a staffer at her office gave the wrong information to the Marshall News Messenger for a Thursday story – which said no one has contacted the senator's office regarding the issue – due to "an internal staff miscommunication."

Loftus said the senator's office has heard from people who support the idea and people who oppose it.
