The GCLA is concerned that Senitor's potential action will damage the rapidly expanding Caddo Lake ecotourism business that is recognized by the state as the single most important factor in Harrison and Marion Counties $60 plus million-dollar annual travel and tourism income.

Dear Senator Hutchison:
The Greater Caddo Lake Association is deeply concerned over reports that you are supporting efforts to divert a portion of the Longhorn Army Ammunition Plant (LAAP) site from the new Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge and turn it over to either Harrison County or a public/private group to be used for industrial development.
Such a last minute intervention could seriously interfere with our lake communities longstanding goal to assure that all LAAP land and water interests are transferred to management by Caddo Lake NWR. We believe complete transfer will not only enhance protection of Caddo Lake; it will avoid the intrusion of potentially incompatible industrial uses in our rural area, reduce protection, and undermine many local ecotourism investments that have been accelerating since the NWR became a reality.
