When I decided to return to Northeast Texas from San Francisco, the first words out of almost all of my California friends mouth was WHY? Why would you want to live there?
My response was always the same Caddo Lake.
Now almost four years later I would give the same answer. The only difference is that four year ago I thought that was the case. Now I know it. Caddo Lake is what makes this area unique.
In my opinion, the Lake is the biggest tourist draw that we have. All the towns and the cities in the area can profit from having it in their backyard from Uncertain to Jefferson to Marshall.
As I drifted over the Lakes backwater this weekend I realized how fragile this jewel really is. Historically, Caddo has always been under attack by those that want to abuse it to make a few bucks.
The biggest bucks Caddo has to offer is from tourism and people dont have to kill it to get them. People must become aware that the best way to promote tourism and make money is to protect Caddo -- this applies to Uncertain, Jefferson, Marshall and all of the towns in between. If people dont understand this - a few years from now The Goose That Laid the Golden Egg story can be used to explain what happened at Caddo Lake.
All the photos in this gallery were take around noon on Sunday. Not the best time to shoot photos but they demonstrate what the lake has to offer tourists. Take a look the photo gallery by clicking below. How many places can a tourist see this at noon on a Sunday in July?
