Book Review: The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman
By Tom Allin
There are very few books that I have read that made me think as much as The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman. This read is frightening yet at the same time exciting. This is a must read for anyone who has not read it.
Friedmans writing puts your mind in the future but he is writing about today! Everything he discusses and all his examples are happening now, not tomorrow. The premise of title -- the world is flat, is one of world connectivity created by cheap telecommunication and the resulting flattening of barriers to do business anywhere and with anyone.
Friedman simplifies the complexities of the challenges each of us face in the ever faster changing world and helps you make sense of the confusing world economic order. He translates the complex foreign policies and economic issues facing the United States and their effects on our companies, communities, and each individual into winnable scenarios. The world has changed and either we adapt or we fall behind. Falling behind is not an option.
