The Chamber is proud to announce that Geraldine Mauthe, the current Executive Director of the Marshall Regional Arts Council, has accepted the position of tourism director. As explained in past issues of the FOCUS, the Chamber has a contract with the City of Marshall, using Hotel/Motel Tax funds, to promote tourism, convention and visitor development. Mrs. Mauthe has a long – and strong – history with the Chamber, having served as the President of the Board in 2000 and as Vice President many years in various positions that all involved tourism and festivals. She has also been named Outstanding Citizen for Marshall and has been an active volunteer in a wide variety of organizations. Her hard work, knowledge of the community, respect at all levels and her passion for Marshall were some of the factors that led to her being offered the position. She will take her place on August 1, a good time for her as part of July will be spent in Plano with daughter Martheil and soon-to-be-born grandson. Heartfelt "Thanks!" go to the many job applicants and particularly to the very talented people who were selected for interviews. It does your heart good to hear so many people who have caught the enthusiasm of the new Marshall. It is also great to know that the MRAC Board has been supportive of Geraldine’s move and that they have pledged their efforts in working with the tourism effort.
