Marshall is going to have a big time on the Fourth of July, as community volunteers are finalizing a downtown celebration, to be centered on the square.
"This is a go," said organizer Bryan Partee. "We've had wonderful community response. A lot of civic groups, businesses and individuals have stepped forward. Everybody is helping us have a Fourth of July in Marshall."
Contests are planned, with Home and Garden Party donating prizes. All food and drinks, including Blue Bell ice cream sandwiches and snow cones, will be sold for a quarter each.
Patriotic music will be played and "Independence Day," starring Will Smith, will be shown at 9 p.m. at the corner of North Washington Avenue and East Rusk Street.
