I don't know about you, but I'm a little less than shocked over the recent vote over who should be chairman of the Marshall City Commission, the post we and almost everyone else calls "mayor."
Four-to-three. Hmmm. Now where have I heard that before? Sounds familiar, but I just can't place it. Oh, that's right, that's the tally of just about every meaningful vote that comes before the commission.
But I'm a whiner, I suppose, because I don't like unanimous votes any better, which is just about how every vote that isn't 4-3 ends up in the commission. Unanimous votes don't give me so much a feeling of unity and brotherhood as they do the formality required by Roberts Rules of Order.
Like I said, I'm being a whiner.
Just a few times, though, could you guys arrange a 5-2 vote? I would even take a 4-3 vote that was not split with the exact same four and the exact same three. Mix it up a little, guys. Trade a Partee for a Hester with a politician to be named later every now and then. Surprise us.
