Sales taxes: Local economic barometer reflects upward trend in local taxable sales
Sales tax revenues for the city rose by 10.85 percent in May compared to the same month a year ago.
Texas Comptroller Carole Strayhorn said, in a news release, that statewide municipal sales tax allocations are up 7.3 percent compared to the same period in 2004 and sales tax payments sent to Texas counties are up 13.8 percent over the same period in 2004.
Marshall collects 2 percent on the dollar.
Allin said he got his figures from the state comptroller's office and the U.S. Census Bureau.
Marshall did come in seventh for gross sales, he said.
Allin also pointed out, however, that Marshall's sales tax figures might look a little better than some because seven other cities in this area have a 1.5 percent sales tax and Nacogdoches has a 1 percent sales tax.
