County's 911 system gets high tech update

With the flip of a switch at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Harrison County citizens were awarded greater protection and faster response time to emergency calls. The move was the culmination of installation work by Southwestern Bell Company, training sessions for the county's nine-member communications division and fees collection by Texas Eastern 911 Network.
Telephone company employees were busy yesterday afternoon hauling box after box of bulky, antiquated dispatch equipment from the fourth floor of the courthouse.
