Amtrak: Equity with highways and air travel needed

As the nation's passenger rail system comes under financial scrutiny again, a longtime Marshall rail proponent says it's time Amtrak be considered on equal footing with subsidies granted to highways and airports.
President Bush's proposal to eliminate funding for Amtrak in 2006 is just the first volley in an annual game, a spokesman for the national passenger rail carrier said Thursday. -3/11-
