Obesity is one factor affecting E. Texas residents

Harrison County has a higher percentage of serious diseases than Texas as a whole, and obesity is one factor that leads to those diseases, state Health Commissioner Eduardo Sanchez said Saturday at a community health forum hosted by East Texas Baptist University. County residents have 1.5 times more strokes than the rest of the state, he said, 1.5 times more lung cancer, more diabetes and twice the number of vehicular accidents.
