Kwanzaa holiday kicks off
Faye Anderson opens the door to her home with a smile, the Swahili words "Habari gani" and a brightly colored strip of African-print cloth in her hands, ready to grace the shoulders of her next visitor.
Her table is set with a place mat, a chalice, a bowl of fruit, two ears of dried corn and something that resembles a menorah, but holds one black candle in the middle, and three red candles and three green candles on either side. It is revealed later that it is a kinara, the wooden candle holder used to celebrate the African-American holiday, Kwanzaa.
