America has lost one of its most admired artists with the passing of Beverly Sills. She was the people's opera star diva. Not only did her great voice appeal to the true opera buffs but also she had mass appeal to those who had never been to a performance. Her appearance on TV from talk shows to singing with the Muffets and the teaming up with Carol Burnett made her a versatile queen of entertainment. I had the pleasure of meeting Miss Sills a few times and to see her perform with the San Francisco Opera Company. Yes, I had season tickets, second row. I guess that is what makes me so picky - I have seen the best.
