Birdbanding an important element in the collection of data on birds

Texas has the largest variety of birds of any state in the country. Birding is one of the fastest growing hobbies in the United States and is becoming a bigger portion of the eco-tourism industry each year. Dr. Jim Ingold of LSU Shreveport bands birds at the Walker Farm 15 to 20 times a year. New Birds are netted, and banded, and then data is recorded on birds previously banded. All of this data is loaded into a national database. The data collected is valuable and the bird banding experience is an enjoyable and informative outing.
