About A Standing Miracle
In 1783, American independence won, General George Washington laid down his sword. In his "Farewell Orders to the Armies of the United States," penned from the field near Princeton, NJ, Washington included this striking comment about how our nation obtained independence from Great Britain, the mightiest empire on earth:

A contemplation of the compleat [sic] attainment (at a period earlier than could have been expected) of the object for which we contended against so formidable a power cannot but inspire us with astonishment and gratitude. The disadvantageous circumstances on our part, under which the war was undertaken, can never be forgotten. The singular interpositions of Providence in our feeble condition were such, as could scarcely escape the attention of the most unobserving; while the unparalleled perseverance of the Armies of the U States, through almost every possible suffering and discouragement for the space of eight long years, was little short of a standing miracle.

All events retold in the presentation actually happened. Beyond Washington's actual words, all opinions expressed in A Standing Miracle are found in Washington's own writings. Only the scene itself (the "stage" for this presentation) is fictionalized. The 40 minute monologue (or 20 minute abridged version) transports listeners back to March 4, 1797, and an audience with the first President of the United States in the moments before he leaves office.

Audiences have thrilled at Miracle. "A sterling portrayal." "Powerful and moving." "We were spellbound." "Excellent!" "Awesome experience." "Inspirational!!"
