What I know about the Blues
By: Phyllis Bailey
Up until a few weeks ago, all I knew about the blues, I could sum up in two words. The two words are, Wes Jeans. He was 15 and would spend the night at my house with my son, as the two were very close friends during high school. I remember he always brought his guitar, and he always played his music. I was a Hendrix fan, back in the day, so his style appealed to me. He made an impression on me, but his biggest impression of me was probably our standard poodle biting him in the belly and me begging him not to tell his dad. I remember all the mornings I cooked him breakfast, and I would say, "Now, Wes remember me when you're rich and famous." He always promised he would.

We now have many great blues artists in this area. It was only two weeks ago that I really heard Bobby Oliver, and the Jam City Review for the first time. Living on Caddo Lake, and working in Marshall, I am ashamed to say I had never heard Diddley Squat perform. What a mistake for me, and if you have not heard them, what a mistake for you to make!
