an opinion article by Richard Moore City Park is the new, hot buzz and the place to bring the rug rats. I remember the way it was in the mid-forties and the cool thing to do was walk around the willow trees so you would be in water up to your knees or be in the pool when the water was turned on high late in the afternoon. This was the era of whites only and after I left in 1954 it was closed and the pool was filled in -- no integration there! I was even sadder when I saw they had torn down the WPA stone meetinghouse at the top of the stone stairs. Now, 53 years later, due in part to a generous donation from a local family, the park is again open.
