I regret having to tell you that the situation with giant salvinia at Caddo Lake has become very grim in the last 24 hours. We are in urgent need of help.

The good news is that the Caddo Lake Giant Salvinia Barricade works. Within 24 hours of the first 1/4 mile of netting being hung, the barricade was stopping giant salvinia from entering the western half of the lake.

The bad news is that we still have more than one mile of netting to hang -- a process that will take at least another 7 days and maybe more.

And meanwhile, an explosion of rapidly expanding giant salvinia has broken loose from Big Green Brake and Tar Islands. Infestations are already occuring in Little Green Brake and along the north shore from Hollands Camp down to entrance to Ames Spring Basin.
