Statement from Harrison County Judge Richard Anderson

June 12, 2007 This past Monday (June 11), following a request by Mr. Ray Lawson on behalf of the Marshall Chamber of Commerce, the Harrison County Commissioners' Court agreed to allow organizers of Wonderland of Lights to return the ice skating rink to the east side of the Old Courthouse Square for the 2007 Christmas season. We, as a Commission, were unaware that there was any opposition to approving such a move since there was no member of the community who spoke at the public comment period in the meeting. I'm also not aware of any citizens who contacted members of the Commission prior to the meeting in this regard. I'd add that this is the first time that this issue has come before the Commissioners' Court, as historically the City had made these arrangements. Following the meeting of the Court, I received two telephone calls from constituents voicing concern that the ice rink on the east side of the Square will diminish the beauty of the Courthouse during Wonderland.
