I prefer to call it a town versus the "City of Marshall". I guess by strict definitions it is a city, but town sounds so much friendlier and a place I would rather be. As a new person to Marshall it has been interesting to watch and learn and try to figure out why some things happen the way that they do. I spoke with someone not a week ago that said that Marshall has its own way of doing things. Is that good or not? I try to teach my children to march to their own drum and then I tell them people judge them by their actions, words and clothing. I also tell them if you are going to do something good or bad, own it. My teenagers and the town of Marshall are trying to find the fine balance of being unique and still being open and welcoming to all, remembering it is those who come from the outside that eventually label us. If you don't believe me go to the high school some day. If you are going to be "prep" or a "Goth", dressing the part is just half of the job. There is nothing worse than being labeled a "wannabe" anything. If you are going to do something, do it all the way!
