is a bad idea

First let me say that I think it is great to have a skating rink in Marshall during the Christmas holidays.
However, when I read the MNM this morning, I was very disappointed to see that our County Commission will consider a request from the Greater Marshall Chamber of Commerce to move the ice-skating rink back to the east side of the square. I was even more disappointed to hear that the Commissioners' Court voted to move the tacky skating rink back to the Square.
Last year I was happy to see the rink moved. I thought I would never have to see the rink spoiling the view of the lighted courthouse ever again. I thought how great things would look in 2007 when the construction work was finished and there would be and unblocked view of the courthouse.
I wish that our elected officials had not chosen to honor the Chamber's request. They did not. The Court fell for the Chamber's line -- that the move of the skating rink cost Wonderland revenue. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Wonderland is dying because of lack of imagination, not the move of the skating rink. Moving the skating rink won't help the financials for 2007.
