Richard Moore: REEL PEOPLE -- Betty Hutton -- part 3
I want you, the reader, to think of a stressful time in your past and then put it into words. You will then understand why I have drawn out the Betty Hutton saga. To relive it twice is a drag but it does help unloading the old memory bank.
We pick up with me heading home. Betty is checked into the hotel and it has been a very long day. The following week is a blur of visits, phone calls, and watching my credit card balance rise.
At this point when hotel management complained and I was beat from the mental games, such as, "I was going to jump out the window but your phone call stopped me." "Betty," I said, "I have a 2-bedroom, 1 ½-bath home and you are welcome to move in. I cannot afford these hotel bills and long distance phone calls." I didn't mention that the hotel staff was upset with the demands of room food service when there was none. A bellman would run out and pick up food for her.
