Longview seeks retirement destination designation
By SHERRY KOONCE --- Longview News Journal
Sunday, April 08, 2007

Kathleen Castleberry is planning on taking tennis lessons at the country club, or maybe she'll drive over to Shreveport for a day of shopping along the boardwalk while her husband, Robert, spends his days reclining in his favorite easy chair. He loves to play games on the computer and often finds time to weed the flower beds under a lazy blue East Texas sky.

For the retired couple who recently moved to Longview from Deer Park, theirs is a life of leisure that was years in the making.

For the Castleberrys, retirement is a life phase to be cherished and one that many cities are embracing for the economic impact it will bring.

With rolling green hills and scenic waterways, ample retail shopping, rich culture, mild weather and bountiful health care and educational opportunities, Longview officials believe the city is just the type of place many retirees are looking for to spend their golden years. And, they're taking steps to ensure retirees, or those approaching retirement age, will get the message.
