Last time we ended on the Betty Hutton saga with the phone call on a Sunday morning. I want the readers to place themselves in this situation. Think of a celebrity you have known on film and TV all your life and out of the blue you hear that they are in trouble and you are the only person who can help them. She needed a place to stay and could I get her back to the Mansion - that was and still is a very upscale bed and breakfast. I took her number, told her to get her bags ready and called Randy Neil, the founder of the National Film Society. "Randy, what can we do?" Meaning in the term, money. His response, "Put her in lodging, we take care of our own." Oh, that is fine but it was my credit card I was using.
