This is a true story.
During the Battle of Antietam, which took place near Sharpsburg, Md., in September, 1862, one of the surgeons ran out of bandages. It was a bad time to run out of bandages or other medical supplies because Antietam was the bloodiest single-day battle in American history.
So many soldiers were wounded the hospital tents were surrounded by acres of bloody bodies.
About 23,000 men were killed or wounded.
