Giant salvinia is now present in a number of areas at Caddo Lake. The Cypress Valley Navigation District is managing an aggressive and innovative project at the lake to contain the plant before it invades all areas. This project is supported by the Caddo Lake Institute, Northeast Texas Municipal Water District, the Greater Caddo Lake Association, Harrison County, the City of Marshall, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Other organizations, companies, and individuals will be joining this effort soon.
