KARNACK - Members of Cypress Valley Navigation District discussed erecting a mesh barricade to help stop the spread of giant salvinia in Caddo Lake, which officials say has significantly increased in Louisiana because of recent flooding and high winds.
"If the giant salvinia that is spread out across Big Lake in Louisiana is wind-blown into Texas, it will completely infest Texas waters on the southern end part of the Texas Caddo Lake by the end of the summer," said Navigation District Chair Ken Shaw of the aggressive invasive aquatic plant after Monday's regular meeting.
"This barricade that we anticipate should stop maybe 99 percent," he added.
