EXTRA EXTRA -- Politics can Kill -- Part 2 -- by Phyllis Bailey
My last article was a start on how we were not following the directional memo of Destination Development, regarding the items that should and could be taken care of immediately. In their initial assessment prior to any official stand or "the memo," they suggested how much more 'sitter friendly' the benches would be if they were moved off the curb. I remember the comment, "wouldn't it be a lot more appealing if they were moved back and people were not sitting with their knees on the bumpers of parked cars?" I laughed, as did everyone else in the room, as they looked around and nodded at one another. Why, because it was a no-brainer. It seems the city, or the Downtown Merchants, would have immediately made a B-Line Downtown and set the benches back.
