The city commission will wait for an action plan from tourism consulting firm Destination Development before deciding whether to change the city's Convention and Visitor Development Department to an independent tourism group.
At Thursday's meeting at City Hall, Commissioner John Wilborn said he has been receiving calls from citizens concerned about the CVD office. Wilborn said, "The commission's agenda should be to improve the lives of the citizens of Marshall, Texas."
If the CVD office was changed to a stand-alone non-profit organization, Destination Development recommends it have a small board that would answer to the director of the bureau, not the Chamber or the city. Wilborn said he didn't object to Destination Development's recommendations.
