It is official, now. The Marshall City Commission will definitely be undergoing some changes with the next election.
Commissioner Ed Carlile said Monday that he would not be a candidate for his position. Carlile has served two terms on the commission and, at 65, is interested in taking some time for himself. We understand that and we appreciate the service he has given to the city.
Most people do not understand the amount of time necessary to be a city commissioner. Many may think it is an "easy" job, perhaps even a job that gives "glory" to those who hold it.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Along with being a frequent target on this newspaper page, those who serve as city commissioners must deal with all kinds of public criticism. Praise is rare.
