Each day I will post photos from my eight days in the Galapagos Islands
Fernandina is an imposing volcano rising to nearly 5,000 feet in elevation. It has a history of erupting every few years and is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Its flanks are streaked with innumerable fresh lava flows, most of them still black and lifeless. Here one finds marine iguanas by the hundreds basking on the dark lava while sea lions, penguins, flightless cormorants, herons and sea turtles are seen.
