Falling revenue, higher expenses put pinch on annual holiday festival

Unanticipated expenses arising from the old courthouse restoration project caused a drop in Wonderland of Lights bottom line, Phyllis Bryan said Wednesday.
She shared the information Tuesday afternoon with those who attended the year's first board meeting of Marshall Festivals Inc.
"We're still looking at the numbers," Ms. Bryan said, "but they're not looking as good as they have in the past."
Ms. Bryan said among line items that were over-budget were those relating to operation of the ice skating rink and increased insurance coverage required of MFI in conjunction with courthouse lighting.
One item that was totally unexpected was the cost of generators used to light the courthouse.
And while expenses were up, revenue was down, Ms. Bryan said.
