J.W. Kelley was standing by the checkout desk at Marshall Public Library Friday afternoon wearing western boots, a felt Resistol western hat and a vest. He was waiting for wife Anne to finish her business.
"Are you a rancher," I asked.
"Well, I was, until marriage put an end to that," Mr. Kelley chuckled, explaining he and his wife were married in 1963, when he was 34 and she was 29.
We were having an entertaining chat about his life and career until Mr. Kelley casually said "I can't see anything, you know. I'm blind. I can't even see your face. I just see shapes."
