MNM EDITORIAL: Questions to ask in election to come

City elections are not until May, but we would suspect that the four commission members whose terms expire at that time - Katie Jones, Ed Carlile, John Wilborn and Jack Hester - have already given some thought about whether they would like to return for another two years of meetings.

Likewise, we would imagine that some who might like to replace them are also considering that right now.

We haven't asked any of them and no one has yet announced for the city commission.

Though it may not seem so, all city commission elections are pivotal. People realize this when a decision is made they don't agree with. Then there are cries to "throw the bums out!"

It has been our experience that these cries usually occur just a few weeks after the election, when most people have already missed the opportunity to vote.

With that in mind, we plan to start talking early about this election because, as a majority of the commission is up for election, there is a possibility for a "sea change" in the make-up of this body. This could be good or bad depending on your point of view.
