Marshallites said goodbye to Father Time and welcomed Baby New Year Sunday night on the lawn west of the newly-renovated former hotel known as The Marshall.

Marshall's "Light Up The New Year" event echoed New York's Times Square ball drop, but on a much smaller scale. Sparklers lit up the night after the ball counted down to the new year.

Shar D. and her partner, Shelley Aquillard of Marshall, brought their family and their friends down to the lawn to ring in the new year.

"We heard it's a real fun time," Ms. D. said, "this year we're going to try Marshall."

Although the small crowd could be blamed on the temperature outside, the cold 44 degree weather didn't deter their family from enjoying the night.
