I was a scrawny Christmas tree
That no one seemed to need.
I had begun to think that Mom & Pop
Had wasted another seed.
I was little, sparse, and my limbs were weak,
And it was plain to see
That all the folks wanted big, fat trees,
Not a little runt like me.
Then, out of the crowd a gentleman stepped,
With a frown upon his face.
And said, "I want a little tree
That won't take up much space."
