Opinion: My thoughts on appointments to the Main Street Board--by Henry Bradbury
When I was 12, I had the downtown route for the Marshall News Messenger. It was a wonderful experience getting to know each business and the personalities within. I delivered newspapers to Cotton Stevens, Lee Nader, Mr. Cariker, Mr. Jobe, Charlie Flowers, Tommy Thompson, BS Manly, Mrs. Recknagel, Mr. Gelling, Mr. Stacy, the Kariels - people who were the heart of a vibrant downtown community. Through that paper route, and our downtown family business of 49 years, I feel very connected not only to downtown, but all of, Marshall.
As a native son, I dearly believe in Marshall and its potential. Maybe because I have lived away, and reviewed hundreds of communities while conducting site searches for new industrial plants, I think Marshall has the ingredients to have one of the most competitive economic development programs in the state. The results of such a program would produce benefits for every citizen and the city as a whole.
