Report on CVD fund use delayed
By ROBIN Y. RICHARDSON, News Messenger

An investigative report on the use of Convention and Visitor Development funds, which was recently conducted by the city's accounting department, shows that over a five-year period, thousands of dollars were spent without invoices or receipts to justify the expenditures.

A full overview of the investigation was scheduled for Thursday night's Marshall City Commission but due to an illness in City Secretary Lisa Agnor's family, the item was withdrawn from the agenda. Ms. Agnor was to present the report.

"We determined upstairs we'd defer this item (until) the next meeting," Mayor Ed Smith explained to attendees.

City Manager Frank Johnson said Ms. Agnor, who has overseen the investigation, could possibly give her report during a special-called meeting next Thursday when the city commission convenes to canvass election results at 6 p.m.

Commissioner Katie Jones asked Johnson if it was possible to ask Connie Ware, Greater Marshall Chamber of Commerce chief executive officer, to attend to respond to questions.

Ms. Ware was not present Thursday night, but Geraldine Mauthe, Convention and Visitor Development director, attended. Ray Lawson, the chamber's president, was also present along with Dana Harris.
