Three times proved to be a charm Friday as Harrison County commissioners agreed to allow lighting on three sides of the old courthouse for Wonderland of Lights.
After discussions between restoration general manager, electrical contractors, Marshall Festivals Inc. and city officials, Casey Slone of Slone Construction Company told the court there had been an agreement to light columns on the north, east and west sides of the building and "to hang wreaths that are typically up there."
He said Allen Stiles of Stiles Electric also agreed to light the roof and the dome under the supervision of Slone Construction.
Slone said the two asked Marshall Festivals to "give us something saying we are not liable for the lights. We all agreed this is an acceptable solution," Slone said, noting lights in these areas would pose no danger to the building or to workmen now employed in the final push of interior restoration and grounds reconstruction.
Judge Wayne McWhorter read a letter he had drafted that instructed Slone and Stiles to work with festival sponsors to install the approved lighting and which also exempted them from liability.
