Broadway Nights at Broadway Lights slated for Oct 10
It's a big Broadway Party for Jefferson's Opera House Theatre Players next Tuesday - "off Broadway " that is. The Players are holding their annual membership kickoff party at Jeffersos Broadway Lights Carwash located at 108 Broadway St from 6 to 8 pm on October 10. Featured during the party hours will be New York-type food, drink and entetainment. Slated to open the entertainment at 6 pm are the JHS High School Band Majorettes consisting of Tara Walker, Cecily Hulett, Alena Mcdonald, and Kaitlen Emmerick. According to their sponsor, Margaret Brown, the majorettes will do a showy routine in costume fitting the Broadway Nights theme of the season. Alaos scheduled to perform is Bill Redden, well known vocalist of the area and Gordon Thomas, a retired college professosr from Greenville who took up singing in the "Elvis" style years ago. Both have been seen several times in the Players Follies productions. One of the highlights of the evening will be the Players version of Celebrity Duets. Duos to be featured singing "New York, New York" are Mary Keasler and Patsy Dreesen; Roger Opiela and Corby Alexander; Richard Cook and Marty Marion. Audience members will choose the winning duo and a cash prize will be awarded. Another ighlight is a contest where guests ast the party will guess the correct name of the Broadway characters who are being portrayed by costumed board members. The winner will receive a coveted prize. The Players will have a box set up at the party for guests to deposit non-perishable foods in that will be sent to Marines serving in Iraq and who are led by Lt. Frank "Bubba" Durrum of Mt Pleasant. Lt Durrum's grandmother is Marie Hoag of Jefferson. Memberships will be available and new brochures will be distributed. -30-
