Marshall Chamber of Commerce Chairman Elect Martha Partee RESIGNS in protest

In her resignation letter Chamber Chairman Elect Martha Partee said, "It is my personal opinion that I am not the person this Chamber needs to lead them in 2007. As Board Chairman it would be my duty to serve as chief policy-making officer and executive head of the corporation, as stated in the Marshall Chamber of Commerce- By-Laws, Article V, Section 2 (a). I would need to work closely with other board members and the President/CEO to insure the smooth operation of the Chamber. I do not feel at this time that would be possible. It became quite apparent to me today in our monthly board meeting that the majority of the board is perfectly willing to continue status quo." The incident that resulted is her resignation was a vote on holding a special meeting to discuss complaints about Chamber CEO Connie Ware. A board member moved to hold the special meeting to discuss the matter. The motion passed on a voice vote. As the board members were leaving the room, Ms Ware asked for revote. Mr. Ray Lawson, Chamber Chairman asked that board members return to the room. There was show of hands and in a very close vote the Board reversed itself.
