Question: Should the Marshall City Commissioners have given the City Manager a $9,000 a year pay raise?
We could have led with the headline "80% of voters say City Commission shoud NOT have given Frank Johnson a $9,000 pay raise". That would have been accurate but in my opinion that is not the real story.
During the 3 1/2 days the poll ran, the site received over 10,000 hits. Each day many people had a chance to vote. How many voted? The final vote count was 10 "yes" votes and 40 "NO" votes.
Why did so few people vote? There are two possible explanations:
1. People just dont care.
2. People were concerned that someone would recognize their email address and know how they voted.
In both cases it amounts to the same thing. People just dont care enough to stand up and be counted.
With the exception of the 40 people that voted, no one has a right to be critical of the City Commission. They did what they thought was right and the general public really does not care one-way or the other.
