The Tower --- submitted by Peggy Byassee
The Impossible Tree by Mary Frances (Byassee) Gabour Lamport chronicles the life of a family shot in the tower that day. She lost her youngest son and her sister-in-law and saw her eldest seriously wounded in the attack. She lost most of her eyesight and spent the rest of her life in a wheelchair, but she did not lose her spirit. Her family watched the events unfold on television, knowing that she and her sons were trapped in the building--not knowing whether they were dead or alive until Charles Whitman's assault was done. I remember that day as if it were yesterday.
