Birding at Caddo
By Ben Z. Grant

It's been two years since I went fishing on Caddo Lake, but the impression of that misty, spring morning is still vivid. In my mind, I can still see the hanging moss from the ancient cypress and hear the gentle waves against the boat in those deep, dark waters where time stands still. No wonder so many visitors make the pilgrimage to see this natural lake where history abounds. Maybe, it's true that every day a person goes fishing or takes a walk in the forest, a day is added to his or her life.

Charlotte Kidd drove from Austin to East Texas to take photographs on Caddo Lake. The captioned picture of a kingfisher was one of the pictures she took. To date, 246 species of birds have been recorded in Caddo Lake State Park.
