Marshall Public Library has to be open 48 hours a week, have two full-time librarians, and spend $7.50 per capita in order to maintain its accreditation outlined in the Texas Library Systems Act.
"The biggest requirement is increasing the staff and meeting the $7.50 per capita for next year," librarian Anna Lane told city commissioners Monday during a budget workshop at Marshall City Hall.
Right now, the library spends $6.87 per capita. It is also short of staff, having lost three staff members. The staff is now five-and-a-half.
