Hiring of tourism planning company approved
By ROBIN Y. RICHARDSON, News Messenger

Commissioners unanimously approved a $48,000 agreement with Destination Development, Inc. Thursday to provide tourism planning services for the city.

"I move we go forward with the full package of $48,000 and put back those items we considered dropping out," said Commissioner Ed Carlile. He was referring to three options the Olympia, Wash.-based company offered to eliminate from the agreement to help the city maintain the $40,000 price they wanted to spend for the study.

"The bottom line is in order to fund the full $48,000 the city has a $30,000 line item in the hotel occupancy promotion," City Manager Frank Johnson said. "We can cut back on the promotion effort and save enough money to make up this $8,000 so we can get the full $48,000 study."

Johnson said up to $40,000 of hotel occupancy funds was to be allocated to for the study. Ron Munden, project manager for the Tourism Task Force and steering committee, was able to negotiate the cost from $48,000 to $40,000.
