When city commissioner Katie Jones found out city manager Frank Johnson had not notified the school district until last week about Philadelphia Eagles football player Ed Jasper's interest to invest $4.5 million for affordable housing in Marshall, she was stunned.
"I was very disappointed," she said. "Things had not been done. I had been told by the city manager that the school board and county were notified."
Johnson did not contact the school district's superintendent Kenn Franklin until late last Wednesday to request the item be discussed on the board's agenda for their July meeting, which was Monday. Franklin said it was his first time ever being contacted by the city regarding the lots. He said the district's lawyer needed more time to review documents before placing the item on the agenda.
